Article: It Really is for the Birds - South

Go back to the Tour Return of the Wetland (S)
This is a good place to pause and admire the native California oaks all around us… a common sight in the hills all around San Francisco Bay. These are mostly Valley Oaks, Black Oaks and Coast Live Oaks…and if you listen closely you might hear the lilting songs of little birds who live here…..such as the Oak Titmouse and the Yellow-Rumped warbler. Big birds live here, too. Can you spot a wooden treehouse nearby? Looks like a box. WHO… do you think… might live there? The answer is… probably a Barn Owl or a Great Horned Owl who sleep in the day and feed on other birds and rodents at night. After all this talk of food…and after your good long walk… you may be getting hungry also. The good news is that our final destination is just down the hill and restaurants aren't far away.
